The drum as an Instrument for healing has been in practice across many cultures in the world for over a millennium.  From native American communities to the Tunguska tribes in Siberia as well throughout the tribal communities of Aboriginal, African, middle eastern and Asiatic communities, drum has played the essential role of being the Shaman’s friend assisting to heal, to reinvigorate, to take the client on a journey and to eliminate limited belief systems and negative energies.

What is Reiki Drum Healing?

Reiki drumming as a concept originated in Sedona by a reiki Master healer called Michael Baird in 1999. In this technique the reiki symbols are dropped into the drum and with every beat of the drum, they will flow into the client, making the client feel totally relaxed and allowing healing energies to flow through. It will then be followed by a hands-on healing session. The vibration of the drum can shift you easily to another realm or a level.

My personal experience itself was such with Sarah Greggs, my teacher from the Reiki Drum fame, who had introduced the reiki drum technique to the healers in UK. It was an amazing experience where I became aware of healing parts of myself and when she took us through the reiki drum journey, I heard multiple voices from the indigenous tribes chanting. I had asked other participants if they had heard the voices, and no one had not, and I had realized it was the drum taking me to a different timeline.

This technique breaks into 3 different paths, namely reiki drum healing, reiki drum Journeying and mental/emotional reprogramming. While the reiki drum can assist you with healing, the reiki journeying can be used for soul retrieval, self-empowerment as well as to meet your power animals. You can also journey onto an issue to get further clarification.

The mental/emotional reprogramming can help with positive affirmations that can help with your soul growth. One can even receive insights, and spiritual guidance too.

What happens in a session?

At first, I would honour the four directions and my guides alongside my Power animals with the use of the drum. Prior to meeting the client, the drum would be purified with Sage and the symbols would be dropped into the drum.

The client will be fully clothed, shoes will have to be removed. They can stay either seated or lying down while I ground them and opened their chakras. As they relax into the session, I will start drumming with short beats at first and increasing them into 4 beats as the session progresses.  The sacred symbols will drop onto each chakra as well as any other areas and layers of the client. The client will feel the energies of the symbols and experience deep relaxation and may even have other visual/auditory experiences.  After 20 minutes of continuous drumming, hands on reiki healing will be given for 30 minutes followed by a feedback session and suggestions for aftercare.
